It is important that we reiterate our Cell Phone Policy as we are presently bombarded with cell phone issues. We are asking parents to be a bit more vigilant with their child/children about their cell phone use and we are also demanding that parents thoroughly and consistently peruse the content of the phone. To date, we are having too many cell phones with explicit content going around the school.
Presently, cell phones are allowed on the school’s compound but must remain off during the school hours.
Cell phones must not be visible in hand or person. Evidence of breach of 1-7 below would result in immediate confiscation with subsequent return to parent at the end of term. As far as possible camera phones are not allowed.
The proliferation of inappropriate and obscene messages circulating via social media among students during the school day on the school compound in violation of the Summary Offences Act Ch. 11:02 Sec. 106 & 46 (f) (g)
The harassment of teachers and students on the school compound in violation of the Offences against the Person Act Ch. 11:30a. (1)(a).
The invasion of privacy in the school toilets and changing rooms in violation of (the pending) Cybercrime Bill (2014) Ch. 17:1(a)(b)(c)(d)(e)(f), 43:b, 44, 19:1 (a)(b)(c)(d)
Downloading and sharing pornography on the school compound in violation of The Children Act (2012) Ch.24(1)(a)(b)
Reception and transmission of child pornography among students on the school compound in violation of the Children Act (2012) Ch:40.(1)(a)(b)(c)(d)(e)(f), 41, & 42.
Habitual Texting, “sexting”, and exchanging of frivolous memes and photos during class time.
Filming of real and simulated random acts of student brutality and bullying on our compound to be posted on social media.
Parents we have done our duty to repeatedly inform you and your child/children of the chronic distractions and dangers posed by the abuse of the camera phone technology on our school’s compound. We make no apology for our zero tolerance policy on our camera phone regulations.
Please note that camera-less phones are readily available, and your child/children will survive the perceived blow to his/her social status by possessing one at school. There is no reasonable excuse not to support the school in this matter.
Please note, not everyone will agree with our terms and conditions but you sign in support of the school’s “Cell Phone Policy.” Failure to give support to this legislation will mean that your child/children will be unable to carry a cell phone throughout his/her school life at Couva (St Andrew) Anglican Primary School.
Please be guided accordingly.
