The Chess Club was started in September 2019.
Chess is a board game of strategic skill for two players, played on a chequered board on which each playing piece is moved according to precise rules. The object of this game is to put the opponent's king under a direct attack from which escape is impossible commonly known as checkmate.
All members of the Chess Club at Couva Anglican Primary benefit from the game of chess as it:
• Improves concentration and memory.
• Enhances reading and math skills.
• Fosters logic, critical thinking, and creativity.
• Encourages and rewards hard work.
Students are accepted from Standard 1 to Standard 5 and engage in weekly meetings held every Wednesday after school. At these meetings, students eagerly hone their skills on standard regulation tournament boards while learning very specific moves and game plays.
